I share my stories because I'm still working through them. Sharing in community helps with that process. I share my stories because I want other people having abortions or who have had abortions to feel less alone. I share my stories because, through We Testify, I was able to find a political home and hope to create opportunities for others to do the same.
Abortion Advice: Wear comfortable clothes. Plan out and look forward to a yummy meal after. Text your best friend. Know that you are making a decision for yourself that is powerful. Remember that you are loved by so many. Including abortion storytellers!
How I honor my abortions: I honor my abortions when I hug my children. My abortions made their life possible.
What I wish people knew about abortion: I wish people knew basic facts about abortion at every stage - that abortion is safer than childbirth, for instance. I wish people knew that not saying the word abortion greatly contributes to abortion stigma, which is a huge barrier that leaves many people having abortions without emotional support from their friends and family. I wish people who call themselves "pro-choice" thought about what shying away from talking about abortion does to people having them.
